If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
If you design websites, and have for a few years, I’m sure you’ve wondered at one time or another how much you’ve developed those skills. Yet, have you really gone back in time to check that out?
Well utilizing archive.org’s Wayback Machine you can do exactly that. I myself knew just by what I do today, how much my programming and design has changed, but with tools such as Wayback Machine, you will be able to actually check it out.
It offers a slight disadvantage. Obviously server-side scripting no longer exists, and some images are not backed up by the Archive, but nonetheless it provides a good flashback into your past and see just how much your skills have developed, how your sites have grown, and adapted. It’s just amazing to see.
So if you haven’t explored the Wayback Machine before, or just haven’t thought of using it in this way, check it out!

Thanks to David Bayer for giving me this post idea!

Not to mention this is a great tool to lookup old versions of a domain you’re thinking about purchasing. Gotta love that wacky wayback!

I love studying how architectures have evolved over time. Hasn’t anyone built something better than Wayback yet? I wonder why google doesn’t allow us to look through dated archives of pages - storage challenges?

I would imagine the reason google doesn’t allow it is due to storage challenges, but it would be interesting to see done.
