It’s always exciting to check out the new Paintball markers that the manufacturer’s come out with every year, and one that’s been sweeping the market pretty quick has been Planet Eclipse’s Ego 8.

One of the things I like about Planet Eclipse is the way they design their guns. They are aesthetically pleasing. I mean who wouldn’t want to have one these? Honestly?!

So maybe i’m going a bit fanboy over this Marker, but let’s look at the specs of this beauty.

First, what everyone tends to care about is the BPS (Balls Per Second). The Ego 8 weighs in at about 30+ BPS. That’s some serious firepower. Especially considering most professional leagues only allow a 13 - 15 BPS, but how many actually play tournament?

Including a 14″ shaft II barrel, Battery, and Full-Setup the marker weighs just under 2 Lbs, or 906g according to the Planet Eclipse website.

A Cure Bolt comes standard, which means very little clipping of the second ball in the feed stack. That can be a real time-saver if your at high speed. The last thing you want is a jam. That’s the worst.

The Deftek Feed neck returns in the 8 model, which helps reduce bounce back from a standard feed. A Deftek Feed neck is one that has been bent ward slightly to reduce the bounce back caused by the typical feed neck, which can clog up your ball feed.

They have improved the impact on the paint during firing with a Zick Kit (Zero Kick) which virtually eliminates it. This is a good improvement from the 07 version. It works in two stages.

  • First Stage - Air cushion damps rearward motion of the bolt and rammer.
  • Second Stage - Initial acceleration reduce the amount of force at the start of the bolt cycle followed by swift acceleration to completion.

Other cool features include an enhanced Inline regulator, Dual Sensor Trigger, LCD Display, and On/Off purge system.

If your just starting out in Paintball, this marker may not be for you. If your an intermediate or experienced player, this may be more in your alley.
As you can expect from a high-featured marker, it’s pretty high on the price range, about $1249.99 but you can find it cheaper at many retailers or at the vendor tents at your local or regional events. Although if your serious about Paintball, its a worthy investment. The EGO series of markers do keep an excellent resale value for some time and Planet Eclipse is pretty serious about their products and their reliability.
